The Laundry Supervisor works closely with several local managers to develop and implement the Yachts sustainability project for the British Virgin Islands business. In this role, they provide essential administrative and hands-on support, ensuring key systems run efficiently while maintaining various records and applications. Additionally, they champion positive relationships within the team to improve teamwork and efficiency.
What you will be doing
- Be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Laundry/Housekeeping department
- Develop an action plan in response to the outcome of the inspection and communicate to senior management as needed.
- Regular review of tasks undertaken at the end of every single day to ensure adequate and appropriate feedback to all parties impacted including hotel guest.
- Liaise with cleaning supplies and linen service providers when reordering and renting to maintain per stock.
- Conduct inspection on safety equipment and regularly used machinery i.e. washer machine, and report any issues found to upper management.
- Conducting in house training.
- Establish cleaning standards and procedures for workers and ensure strict adherence to them.
- Mentoring and developing employees.
- Scheduling and assigning specific duties/roles to line staff and ensuring that they are carried out authoritatively.
- Make sure that whatever assignment or duty to be carried out, has enough personnel to see it through, and that they (the workers/personnel) have enough supply of the required equipment with which to complete the assigned tasks.
- Inspection of cleaning equipment regularly to know when they are worn-out and request for replacement.
- Controlling and supervising the usage of cleaning materials to avoid or minimize waste and/or misuse.
- Providing any form of required assistance to line staff while they carry out their duties.
- Discuss general cleaning procedures on a regular basis with the line staff and recommend changes in procedures (cleaning methods) if the need arises.
- Responsible for submitting payroll time sheets on time for all employees in the department.
- Assist with the planning and coordination of boat changes and accommodation requests daily.
- Responsible for completing staff monthly, quarterly, and annually to ensure their objectives and expectations are clear and always adhered to.
Other duties:
- Familiarize yourself with departmental functions and provide coverage when required.
- Attend and contribute to departmental and general staff meetings.
- Responsible for coordinating coverage of your assignments.
- Attend training courses/seminars when scheduled.
- Carry out other assignments as requested by your managers.
- Must always be well dressed in uniform.
- Unquestionable integrity, very friendly, enjoys working with people.
The ideal candidate will have the following
- At least 4 years as an experienced worker cleaning and maintain laundry equipment and machinery and public areas.
- Ability to use computer software programs such as Microsoft Word/Excel/Outlook, reservation systems and/or internet-based data centers.
- Capable of growing in a fast-paced environment, multitasking, and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Self-starter with ability to work under own initiative.
- Ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
- Able to be organized and respond to changing priorities.
- Strong analytical, communication, and social skills.
- Strong team spirit and flexibility.
- Ability to develop effective relationships with staff.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion.
- A basic degree in any hospitality-related field is a nice to have.
Other Job requirements
- Must possess excellent communication skills in speaking, writing, and even in listening.
- Must have good interpersonal attributes (easily meticulous).
- Ability to walk and stand 80% of the day.
- Proficient in using VHF radio, including the accurate use of call signs.
- Excellent decision-making ability.
- Must be proactive in the line of duty.
- Must have the ability and willingness to work as part of a team, and most significantly, manage a team.
- Should have a clear understanding of customer service guidelines/principles.
- Should have good base knowledge of the yachting industry and an understanding for health and safety in the role.
- Must have confirmed experience in cleaning and supervision of cleaning procedures.
