POSITION SUMMARY - This position is based in Singapore
We are seeking 4-6 promising and self-motivated Blue Carbon Research Interns to support the long-term growth and success of Conservation International’s work in the Asia-Pacific for a period of 3-6 months. The intern will have the opportunity to work alongside the International Blue Carbon Institute (IBCI) team and colleagues from Asia-Pacific and global teams and will play a pivotal role in advancing our applied blue carbon research initiatives and programs.
The Blue Carbon Research Intern position is open to undergraduate or Master’s level students in Singapore universities reading Biological and/or Life Sciences, Environmental Studies, Ecology, Earth Systems Science, Spatial Analysis, Geography, or related fields.
RESPONSIBILITIES
This role reports to the Senior Director of the International Blue Carbon Institute, and working with colleagues based in the Asia-Pacific Field Division and globally, the intern will provide support in the following areas:
- Support Conservation International’s blue carbon research programs in reviewing scientific literature, summarizing findings, and contributing to research reports or papers.
- Assist with data collection and analysis.
- Assist in documenting findings, and progress in the form of reports, or presentations.
- Collaborate with staff and partners in coordinating timelines, resources, and deliverables for multiple research projects.
- Assist in creating educational materials and social media content to raise awareness about the importance of blue carbon ecosystems and their role in climate change mitigation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Must have stable and secure internet access for work.
- Hours - Full-time: 40 hours Part-time: 20 hours
- This position follows a hybrid work structure, working some days from the office and some remotely. Guidance will be shared during the interview process.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Current enrollment in a Singapore university (or gap year), reading an undergraduate or Master’s degree with a focus on Biological and/or Life Sciences, Environmental Studies, Ecology, Earth Systems Science, Spatial Analysis, Geography, or related fields.
- Strong literature research and review, scientific writing, and communication skills are a must.
- Passionate about science communication. Familiarity or experience in making science accessible to diverse audiences.
- Knowledge of blue carbon ecosystems, voluntary carbon markets, and nature-based solutions is advantageous but not mandatory.
Preferred
- Curiosity and passion for environmental conservation and climate change issues.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Able to absorb and synthesize new information quickly.
- Collaborative and team-oriented, solution-focused approach, with good communication skills.
- Independent thinker and worker. Creative and capable of “outside the box” thinking.
- Experience working with geospatial data software will be an advantage (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS, Google Earth Engine).
