The National Geographic Society headquarters, based in Washington, D.C., is undergoing a significant renovation project on its campus (called Base Camp), which will be completed in 2026. The public-facing portion of this renovation will be the new National Geographic Museum of Exploration. Components of the new museum will include a state-of-the-art pavilion entrance, auditorium, iconic photo gallery, exhibition space, immersive walk-through attraction, retail, food and beverage, education center, archives, tours, and exciting new event space. The capstone of the renovation is a one-of-a-kind nighttime experience in the courtyard.

Job Description Summary
NGS is seeking a Group Sales Coordinator to create fun and exciting educational experiences for groups visiting Base Camp. The Group Sales Coordinator will bring their experience in tourism sales. This position will report to the Director of Group Sales and Experience.

Your Impact
Responsibilities Include:
Fulfillment (60%):
Assist with financial transactions and special requests with group clients – both internal and external requests
Assist with group reservations in the ticketing system and maintain reports on tentative and confirmed group visits.
Assist with coordination with the Group Experience team to arrange logistics for group visits
Sales and Outreach (25%):
Attend local tourism focused conferences and events to grow client base and sell group opportunities
Assist the Director of Group Sales and Experience to meet revenue and attendance targets
Use Salesforce to track group sales outreach efforts
Assist outreach efforts to bring group audiences of all types to Base Camp, including tour operators, school groups (paid, unpaid, local, national, international), corporate/convention, and others as identified and developed
Assist with data for reports and progress updates on group sales activities, including progress toward revenue and attendance goals

Educational Background
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
Minimum Years and Type of Experience
2+ years of relevant experience
Necessary Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of best practices in group sales strategies and fulfillment.
Experience assisting in sales outreach efforts.
Experience using CRMs, Salesforce experience a plus
Knowledge of data systems and sales tracking software.
Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with a wide range of staff and external stakeholders.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Excellent communication, organizational, and research skills.
Meticulous attention to detail and thorough record keeping.
Technical proficiency with Microsoft Office and G-Suite tools.
Desired Qualifications
Museum, tourism, group sales or attraction experience a plus
Collaboration and Teamwork
Support various teams as needed, providing cross-trained coverage for breaks, absences, or high volume. Assist with general museum tasks such as maintaining public spaces, providing basic visitor assistance, and helping with event setup/breakdown.

The salary range for this position accounts for a wide range of factors including but not limited to organizational need; specific skill sets; experience and training; certifications; and more. At the National Geographic Society, individuals are typically hired at or near the starting point of the salary range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
The hourly range for this position is $25.10 - $26.45.

Job Designation
On-Site Flex - Staff members who must be physically present at Base Camp to do the vast majority of their work supporting overall building and museum operations. On-Site Flex staff hours are determined in consultation with supervisors, and are responsive to the needs of the MOE and other building operations, often including nontraditional (M-F, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.) work hours.
