Job Description

Job Summary:

The Junior Anti-Poaching Ranger provides frontline support in protecting wildlife and natural resources against illegal hunting, habitat destruction, and other ecological threats. The role contributes to patrol operations, monitoring wildlife, reporting illegal activity, and supporting senior rangers in maintaining the safety and integrity of protected areas.

Key Responsibilities:

Patrols & Surveillance

  • Conduct foot, vehicle, bicycle, or boat patrols in assigned sectors.
  • Monitor sensitive zones such as water points, boundaries, and wildlife corridors.
  • Assist in operating surveillance equipment.
  • Participate in night patrols or ambush operations.
Law enforcement support
  • Identify and report illegal activities.
  • Remove snares and traps under supervision.
  • Assist senior rangers during arrests.
  • Maintain secure handling of evidence.
Wildlife monitoring & conservation
  • Record wildlife sightings and ecological data.
  • Support ecological monitoring programs.
  • Maintain water points, firebreaks, and trails.
Safety & emergency response
  • Respond to emergencies.
  • Provide first aid support.
  • Maintain personal fitness for field operations.
Community engagement
  • Support conservation education in communities.
  • Report community concerns or suspicious activities.
Equipment & logbook management
  • Maintain personal gear and equipment.
  • Record patrol data accurately.
  • Participate in routine equipment inspections.
Requirements:
  • O-Level or higher.
  • Basic conservation or security training.
  • Physically fit for rugged terrain.
  • Previous conservation or security experience.
  • First Aid training.
  • Knowledge of wildlife tracks/ species.
  • Ability to use GPS and radios.
Working conditions
  • Long hours, including weekends and nights.
  • Remote and harsh field conditions.
  • Exposure to dangerous wildlife and armed poachers.
