Job Description
PRIMARY PURPOSE
The Assistant Manager is responsible for assisting the Lodge manager with managing and maintaining the smooth operation of the Lodge. To provide leadership and development of staff, maintain lodge facilities and provide a level of hospitality which meets the company’s minimum standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assisting with the day to day running of the lodge including guest activities, hosting, housekeeping, catering, curio shop, stock, banking, administration & maintenance within the high standards of Wilderness
Assisting with the implementation of the Wilderness environmental and social standards in the camp
Ensure that a service which exceeds their expectation is always offered to guests traveling in the camp
Assist with ensuring that payroll and other HR procedures are attended to and provided to the HR department within time frames as stipulated
Assist with ensuring succession planning for your camp with assistance from AM and/or HR
Assist with ensuring a process of evaluation is implemented for all camp staff to monitor performance
Ensure the ongoing training of the camp staff to ensure adherence to the Wilderness standards as well as their personal development
Provide support to Lodge Managers as required by your Area Manager
Assist in counseling and disciplinary processes as and when required by Camp Managers
REQUIREMENTS
3 to 5 years of related experience in a camp environment.
Culinary diploma is a prerequisite
Good knowledge of food and food presentation standards
Good Knowledge of Stock levels, Storerooms and control systems to be adhered to as per minimum standards
Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Excellent computer literacy skills
Proficient in written and spoken English
Excellent problem resolution skills along with outstanding communication and active listening skills.
Must be Professional, resourceful, responsible, smart and independent – with a natural instinct to be a wonderful sociable host.
A record of outstanding staff relations and the skills and experience to constantly motivate staff.
A keen understanding of the ethos of bush life, with a plainly apparent respect and compassion for conservation
Driver’s license
