Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Chief Engineer to lead the Engineering and Maintenance function across our hotel. This is a key operational leadership role responsible for the effective management of all building services, maintenance programs, contractors, and compliance requirements, ensuring the property is maintained to a safe, reliable, and high performing standard.

What you'll be doing…

You will oversee day to day maintenance operations as well as long term asset management strategies, including preventative maintenance planning, service contracts, and capital works coordination. A strong focus on safety, compliance, documentation, and operational reliability is essential.

Alongside this, you will lead and develop a skilled maintenance team, driving accountability, efficiency, and continuous improvement. You will also engage with internal stakeholders and contribute to maintaining a consistently high standard of guest experience through responsive and effective engineering support.

Tasks and responsibilities include:

Lead all engineering and maintenance operations across the hotel
Manage preventative maintenance programs and ensure full asset reliability and compliance
Oversee contractor management, including service agreements, performance, and quality control
Ensure all statutory compliance requirements are met and accurately documented
Maintain building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire systems, and general infrastructure
Manage reactive maintenance requests and ensure timely resolution with minimal operational impact
Develop and maintain maintenance schedules, service contracts, and compliance records
Oversee engineering budgets, procurement of parts and services, and capital works input
Lead workplace health and safety standards and actively participate in the OH&S Committee
Conduct risk assessments and ensure safe systems of work are in place and followed
Lead, train, and develop the engineering and maintenance team to build capability and performance
Collaborate with other departments to support operational needs and minimise disruption to guests
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across systems, processes, and asset performance

Qualifications

Proven experience in a Chief Engineer or senior engineering management role
Strong technical knowledge across building services and property maintenance systems
Experience managing contractors, service agreements, and compliance frameworks
Strong understanding of preventative maintenance systems and asset lifecycle management
Sound knowledge of OH&S legislation and practical application in a workplace setting
Strong leadership skills with the ability to engage, develop, and hold teams accountable
Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive, preventative mindset
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively across all levels of the business
Trade qualification in mechanical, electrical, or building services discipline highly regarded
