About Camp New Fork
Camp New Fork is a youth summer camp located in the beautiful mountains near Cora, Wyoming.
The camp provides outdoor adventure, skill-building, and personal growth opportunities for
campers each season. Our mission is to create a safe, fun, and inspiring environment where
young people can connect with nature, grow confidence and character, and develop lifelong
friendships.
Position Overview
The Challenge Course Lead is responsible for planning, leading, and supervising all challenge
course activities at Camp New Fork, including our climbing wall, zipline, low ropes and/or outdoor
rock sites. This individual ensures that all challenge course programs are conducted safely,
skillfully, and in alignment with camp policies and industry standards. Additionally, as a lead, this
role is expected to support counseling staff by mentoring and encouraging them through day to
day activities (ie camp games and events).
The ideal candidate has a passion for climbing, strong technical skills, and the ability to inspire
and instruct campers and counselors of varying experience levels in a fun and encouraging way.


Key Responsibilities
● Lead daily climbing and ziplining sessions and instruction for campers, staff, and user
groups.
● Conduct a daily pre-use inspection of challenge course equipment (hardware, ropes,
harnesses, helmets, etc.) and environment
● Maintain and clear gear.
● Conduct safety briefings and ensure all participants and belayers follow proper
procedures.
● Train staff on basic climbing wall facilitation.
● Teach basic climbing techniques, knot tying, and belaying skills appropriate to camper’s
age and ability.
● Supervise and assist participants and counselors during challenge course activities,
ensuring a safe and positive experience.
● Maintain accurate equipment and inspection logs and incident reports as needed.
● Uphold all camp and challenge course safety standards and emergency procedures.
● Promote teamwork, confidence, and personal growth through all camp experiences.
● Mentor, encourage and support all counseling staff.
● Flexibility to participate and lead other camp activities, such as camp games, events or
campfires.


Qualifications
● Minimum age: 19 years old.
● Prior climbing experience required; instructor or guiding experience preferred.
● Knowledge of belay systems, knots, harness use, and climbing safety protocols.
● Certification in challenge course facilitation, belay training, or similar.
● Current First Aid and CPR certification (Wilderness First Aid preferred).
● Strong communication and leadership skills.
● Willingness to provide feedback and correction in a challenge course setting.
● Enthusiastic, patient, and safety-focused attitude.
● Willingness to live and work on-site in a camp setting.
● Must pass a background check.
● Must attend staff training prior to the camp season.


Physical Requirements
● Ability to climb, belay, and lift up to 50 pounds.
● Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
● Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations.
