Camp New Fork is a youth summer camp located in the beautiful mountains near Cora, Wyoming.
The camp provides outdoor adventure, skill-building, and personal growth opportunities for
campers each season. Our mission is to create a safe, fun, and inspiring environment where
young people can connect with nature, grow confidence and character, and develop lifelong
friendships.
Position Overview
The Head of Fly Fishing oversees all aspects of Camp New Fork’s fly fishing program — from
instruction and safety to equipment management and trip leading. This role is ideal for an
experienced and passionate angler who enjoys teaching young people and sharing the art and
ethics of fly fishing in a wilderness setting.
The Head of Fly Fishing will manage the camp’s fly fishing area, organize instructional sessions,
lead fishing trips, maintain gear, and instill respect for conservation and the aquatic environment.
Key Responsibilities
● Lead and oversee all fly fishing instruction for campers, staff, and user groups including
casting, knot tying, fly selection, reading water, and fish handling.
● Plan and organize fishing trips to local rivers, creeks, and lakes.
● Supervise and train assistant instructors or junior staff involved in the fly fishing program.
● Maintain and manage all fly fishing equipment (rods, reels, lines, flies, waders, and related
gear) including cleaning, repair, and inventory.
● Teach principles of ethical angling, conservation, and Leave No Trace practices.
● Ensure compliance with all Wyoming Game & Fish Department regulations regarding
fishing licenses, limits, and legal methods.
● Oversee food and logistics for day or overnight fishing trips.
● Conduct pre-trip briefings, safety checks, and post-trip debriefs.
● Promote camper engagement and confidence by fostering a positive, encouraging
learning environment.
● Collaborate with the Camp Director to schedule fishing sessions and align with overall
camp programming.
Qualifications
● Minimum age: 19 years old.
● Strong background in fly fishing required; previous instructional or guiding experience
highly preferred.
● Familiarity with regional fish species, local water systems, and Wyoming fishing
regulations.
● Ability to teach fly casting, knot tying, entomology, and stream ecology in a camp setting.
● Current First Aid and CPR certifications required. Wilderness First Responder (WFR)
preferred.
● Strong leadership, teaching, and organizational skills.
● Ability to mentor youth and staff in both technical and interpersonal skills.
● Commitment to environmental stewardship and safety.
● Willingness to live and work on-site in a remote, rustic environment.
● Must pass a background check.
● Must attend staff training prior to the camp season.
Physical Requirements
● Ability to hike and wade in streams and rivers for extended periods.
● Comfortable carrying fishing gear and supplies over uneven terrain.
● Ability to respond calmly and quickly in outdoor or emergency situations.
