About Camp New Fork
Camp New Fork is a youth summer camp located in the beautiful mountains near Cora, Wyoming.
The camp provides outdoor adventure, skill-building, and personal growth opportunities for
campers each season. Our mission is to create a safe, fun, and inspiring environment where
young people can connect with nature, grow confidence and character, and develop lifelong
friendships.


Position Overview
The Trip Leader is responsible for planning, organizing, and leading all backpacking and
backcountry trips for Camp New Fork staff, campers, and CNF user groups. This position requires
strong wilderness leadership, safety awareness, and logistical organization. The Trip Leader
oversees route planning, food and gear preparation, and field instruction while ensuring each
group’s experience is safe, educational, and inspiring.
This is a hands-on leadership position that blends technical backcountry skills with mentorship
and risk management.


Key Responsibilities
● Lead multi-day backpacking and wilderness trips.
● Plan and manage all aspects of each trip, including route selection, permits, schedules,
and safety procedures.
● Oversee backcountry gear organization, maintenance, and repairs (packs, tents, stoves,
etc.).
● Coordinate food planning, packaging, and distribution for all trips.
● Train and supervise staff assisting on trips in safety, navigation, and group management.
● Conduct thorough pre-trip briefings and post-trip debriefings.
● Manage field risk assessments and respond to emergencies according to camp protocols.
● Ensure compliance with all wilderness ethics, including Leave No Trace principles.
● Maintain accurate trip logs, inventory, and incident reports.
● Collaborate with the Camp Director to align trip experiences with overall camp
programming.


Qualifications
● Minimum age: 21 years old.
● Extensive backpacking and backcountry experience required; experience leading youth
trips preferred.
● Strong knowledge of navigation, route planning, and wilderness safety.
● Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification required.
● Current CPR certification required.
● Knowledge of Leave No Trace principles and ability to teach them effectively.
● Ability to manage food, gear, and logistics for multiple trips at once.
● Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills.
● Ability to inspire, instruct, and mentor campers in outdoor living skills.
● Willingness to live and work in a rustic, outdoor camp setting.
● Must pass a background check.
● Must attend staff training prior to the camp season.


Physical Requirements
● Ability to carry a backpack weighing 40-60 pounds over rugged terrain.
● Comfortable hiking and camping in variable weather conditions and elevations.
● Ability to respond quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
